Are there limitations placed on suspension or expulsion? Grade Level: Effective November 2018, students in pre-k through grade three may not be suspended out-of-school, with exceptions.
Length: Suspension is not more than 10 school days. Expulsion is not more than 80 school days or remaining days in a term.
Violation type: Students may not be suspended, expelled or removed from school solely for attendance issues.

Are there non-punitive approaches outlined as alternatives to suspension or expulsion? Alternatives to discipline encouraged: Boards of education may allow students to perform community service in addition to, or in place of, suspension or expulsion. Effective November 2018, the State Board of Education must update its current policy and standards for the implementation of a positive behavioral interventions and supports framework.  Ohio Rev. Are there alternative schooling options available for students who are suspended or expelled? Yes. Local boards of edcuation may choose to maintain an alternative school and each of the big eight school district must have at least one alternative school. Does the state outline reporting requirements for suspension and expulsion? Data maintained in the education management information system must include suspension and expulsion. Effective November 2018, the Ohio Department of Education must submit an annual report to the General Assembly including data on suspensions and expulsions in pre-K through grade three. The Ohio Department of Education must include an ungraded measure on a district report card indicating whether or not positive behavioral interventions and supports frameworks have been implemented.
