Are there limitations placed on suspension or expulsion? Length: Students may not be excluded more than 5 periods for violation of rule of conduct. Suspension is no more than 10 school days. Minn. Stat. Ann. § 121A.41

Are there non-punitive approaches outlined as alternatives to suspension or expulsion? Alternatives to discipline: parent/guardian attendance at school for one day, Saturday school.
Alternatives to discipline encouraged: Districts are encouraged to establish schoolwide systems of positive behavior interventions and supports.

Are there alternative schooling options available for students who are suspended or expelled? Yes. Schools must attempt to provide educational services to dismissed students. School boards must report exclusions, expulsions and physical assault--including a statements of alternative educational services or other responses to the assault. Reports must include age, grade, gender, race and special education status of students. Incidents of firearm/weapon possession must be reported to the Commissioner of Education. Minn. Stat.
